Assignment
An item that has a total of 27 graphics including a combination of alphabetical pages from A to Z and a concept page.
It is A3 in size.
Limited production of only 50 volumes, costing 10,800¥ It is sold at art stores, including TOKYO BOOK FAIR 2018 (a book fair that was launched in 2009, specialising in art publication), where it sold out immediately after release.
Each and every graphic is associated with a historical font that is linked to acronyms from A to Z, and it expresses the personality associated with the details of the font using human hands.
In order to further visualise the concept that each has its own individuality,
Every single design has their own business card that has been sewn on with threads.
Approach
It is easier to use an actual picture of hands to associate the personality of the font to its details than it is to impersonate or imagine.
The graphics acts as a metaphorical representation between the relationship of lined up alphabets and human relationships,
To make the concept even clearer, each individual piece has their own name cards sewn onto them with a thread.
The inspiration for the execution came from the image of people’s connection and relationship with one another.
Results
As it was produced for promotion,
Even the packaging paper was sewn with threads as well. The fact that the graphics were made manually one by one made it valuable,
It caught the attention of people at shops, and a wide range of people identified with the work, and it sold out immediately. In fact, the artist’s popularity skyrocketed, and the inquiries regarding his work dramatically improved.
