Design a band poster for Magic Pill, The Bloc’s representation at Pharmapalooza, the annual music battle of healthcare agency bands. Together, members of Magic Pill crafted a set of impactful rock ’n’ roll, disco, and blues songs from the past to tell a contemporary story of today. The poster is meant to convey the political, edgy, rebellious, fun, and intense feelings we expected these songs to conjure on stage.
The poster was created using generative design. This process lets designers generate brand new graphic options, beyond what a human alone could create, to arrive at a completely unique and beautifully detailed visual. Inspired by Raven Kwok’s work, the poster was designed from a piece of software we developed to generate numerous random particles and paint the screen with hot colors.
The final shapes resembled flames from a fire and brought an edgy, intense feeling to the poster to capture Magic Pill’s intended radical message. A silhouetted man rocks the stage and a pill-like microphone ties all of the elements together.
