Graduate Thesis assignment where the prompt "Authenticity" was given.
Before they had the right to enlist in the military, women risked their lives and hid their identities in order to serve. War Dolls celebrates the bravery of historic women across the globe who cross-dressed as men in order to enlist in the military. This set of paper dolls includes four famous women whose service dates range from The Napoleonic Wars to World War II. Each doll is packaged in a colorful service record that includes an envelope containing the soldier’s personal and military garments. The unique packaging for each doll and corresponding uniform are both collaged with visuals from each woman’s time of service.
The service records also include a biography of each woman that highlights how and why she enlisted, how her identity was discovered, and her life post-military- service. While eachbiography lists the name that every woman was born with, their individual Military ID cardsincluded in the record display the fake name each woman used to enlist.
