This poster was assigned by NISAC, the National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center. NISAC personnel have examined many sub-systems of the national infrastructure, including energy, water, telecommunications, transportation, and public health. NISAC looks at the interdependencies between these systems to understand how failures in one could disrupt others. My job was to design a graphic that showcases infrastructure interdependency, and create poster showcasing the graphic.
When first approaching this project it was essential to make sure I understood the content. Since the graphic was intended for a non-scientific audience, it was possible for me to write the content myself. I took my own dispositions about infrastructure and organized them in a circle, to reiterate the fact that these infrastructures are cyclical, and if one fails, the others are disrupted. The photographs give the viewer a better understanding of the real-world application, and offer a nice contrast of graphic vs. photograph.
This graphic is repeatedly used for presentations and fact sheets to introduce the impact of the efforts done by NISAC.
