Hot on the heels of our WC18 ball, we struck up a partnership with the good folks at Charity Ball, a non-profit organization that has provided new quality soccer balls to children in poverty-stricken communities around the world since 2009. Coinciding with the rise in awareness of women’s soccer and the public fight for equal pay and treatment of female athletes, Charity Ball founder Ethan King reached out to us to help create an initiative promoting equality in the world’s game. The result of our collaboration is the “Level The Field” campaign and accompanying match ball.
The campaign centers around a dynamic equal sign that’s designed to represent the two sides of the playing field. The logo is displayed on the ball in the bright colors of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Other panels on the ball embrace traditional black and white elements while speaking to diversity, each boasting a unique “Level The Field” typographic expression. The logo and custom typographic illustrations have also found their way into an expanding line of apparel with new designs released regularly via Charity Ball’s shop. All proceeds directly support the campaign efforts to produce tangible change in developing countries with the implementation of ball deliveries, leagues, & tournaments explicitly for girls.
The Level the Field ball was revealed at the Globe Pub in Chicago during the first U.S. women’s national team’s match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The campaign will culminate in the inaugural Level The Field soccer tournament for girls, held in tandem with efforts to bring sustainable clean drinking water for 10,000 people in rural Kenya.
