Astir, is the sixth typeface of the Stella Project, our research and study on the forgotten art of greek calligraphy that flourished from the ’50s through the ’70s. Our sources come form movie posters, shop signs, magazine covers, packaging and advertisment.
Astir is a typeface inspired by the models of greek calligraphy & lettering that were widely used on sign-making and advertising after the war and throughout the fifties, sixties and early seventies in Greece. It has a significant slant and a quite high thick-thin contrast in a fine resemblance of that old-style expressive craftsmanship.
Stella Project is very suceesful and influential in Greece. It has been presented in various magazines, newspapers and blogs. Also, among other design projects, it was hosted in the Benaki Museum in Athens in the exhibition GR design actions.
