The inspiration for this piece comes from the idea of rape culture, in which girls are always blamed for the sexual reactions and actions of boys. This idea, unfortunately, is ingrained into the minds of girls from a young age. Girls are taught that they wear conveys a certain message to boys. A conservative sweater may come across as “prudish”, while a low-cut top is “asking for it”. The poster imitates an elementary school bulletin board, which demonstrates how pervasive the idea of “victim-blaming” is in our society.
To capture the idea, the poster was made to look like a bulletin board with the construction paper letters and classic black background to reference the boards seen throughout the elementary school hallways.
