A Japanese cuisine restaurant “Matsu Matsumoto” serves classic, traditional, yet modernly arranged Japanese cuisine. Matsu Matsumoto aimed to deliver the taste of the restaurant to as many people as possible including overseas by selling sets of salad dressings to be sold at the restaurant as gifts. Our assignment was to develop and design packaging of the dressings. One day, one of the regular customers told the resultant “I would like to deliver to my overseas friends Matsu Matsumoto’s taste, created very carefully with the special Japanese vegetables” and this gave them the idea for the gift sets. The gift sets were only sold at the restaurant in a limited quantity (200 sets). The design had to depict the exclusiveness and show that the dressings are the products of Japan.
We expressed the delicacy of the Japanese food and the specialness of the gift by using traditional Japanese Kimono’s neckband, sash and wooden clogs as motifs and with the design, we depicted the female chef’s thoughtfulness and love for food as she respects and values Japanese traditional taste very much.By keeping the gift box simple against the impactful dressing packages, we aimed to create a moment, where recipients appreciate the specialness of the products in opening the box.
The limited quantity of 200 sets sold out within few days.
