To develop a poster promoting the United Way’s annual Turkey Trot to SCAD students.
Each year the Savannah United Way hosts its Turkey Trot, which features three different races, depending upon the runner’s age and skill level. More than 1,000 runners participate and it’s a major fundraiser for the organization.
Because of the disruption caused by Hurricane Matthew, SCAD extended its fall quarter, which meant students would be in town for Thanksgiving, and spending the holiday away from loved ones. In an effort to create a friendly, family experience that allowed students to have that holiday feel, SCAD worked with the United Way wanted to encourage SCAD students to sign up for the race, held Thanksgiving morning.
The designer wanted to convey a spirit of fun with the poster, mirroring the overall theme of the race. With a running turkey as the focal image, the lighthearted nature of the event shines through. The rest of the poster features rustic elements the remind the viewer of Thanksgiving and that running in a charity race is a great way to give thanks.
SCAD students came out in droves to support the event, helping to raise thousands of dollars for the local nonprofit.
