Born and raised in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Bekker studied photography in both South Africa and England and moved to the United States in 1986, where... he achieved his MFA. He has been on faculty with the commercial photography program at The Art Institute of Atlanta since 1986, heading the program for six years and writing the first BFA program in photography for the Art Institutes. He is currently a professor and practices both commercial and Fine Art photography.
