Chemi Montes was born in Spain, where he studied fine arts and graphic design at the University of Salamanca. He later completed his MFA in graphic design at the Pennsylvania State University. His design career includes professional practice and a long-term dedication to higher education. He is currently head of the Graphic Design Program at American University. His design work has been recognized and published in numerous venues, including Graphis, Communication Arts, Creativity Awards, HOW magazine’s International Design Competition, Print magazine, Applied Arts, and various books. He has also published writings about semiotics in relation to design and advertising.
